The third album in the Days B4 series by Chicago rapper Lucki is titled “Days B4 III.” The song’s eerie, doomsday melodies are the result of Lucki’s collaboration with a group of producers, including SoundCloud mainstays 16yrold and Brent Rambo as well as a local Chicago producer named DJ Eway. Lucki published “Freewave 3” earlier this year, a depressing project that talked about his heartbreak and the drugs that caused it. Lucki raps in “Days B4 III” about how his life has improved. He was at his lowest point during “Freewave 3,” but in his subsequent project, he talks about the ascent back up, taking stock of the previous year and regaining the optimism he had in his music when he first started.
Condo’s produced song “Geeked” showcases Lucki’s dreamy world. Remembering his most drug-dependent days, he remarks, “Codeine never gets bored of me.” As he sings, “Left me all alone, I hope there’s two of me,” Lucki expresses his fear of relapsing into that loneliness even when he takes on brighter productions, like the ethereal “Way 2 Rare.” The last track, “Last Time Mentioning (Good Riddance),” is his best narrative; in it, he melancholy recalls the opportunities, girlfriends, and friends that drugs have stolen from him over the past year or so. But as the song’s title suggests, he wants to move on from it. The dark clouds part and the sun appears at the end of “Days B4 III”. It’s a suggestion that maybe he’s through with the story he’s been telling and adding to, and now he’s ready to begin a new one.
