“Lord Forgive Me” by slimggp is a song from his EP titled ‘The Hill’ released on March 2, 2023 exclusively on SoundCloud.

Analysis:

I personally find this track really unique since the producer experiments with different sample modification techniques, which is something I want to get better at within music production. The primary melody of this song is a reversed sample, which is syncopatedly backed by a bass and reversed drums in the introduction. Despite the bass notes in the sample being quite straightforward, there are many different kinds of leaps between the melody notes. The syncopated rhythm begins with four step hi hats and an 808 with a high attack during the opening section of the hook. The rhythm switches to a 2 step hi hat with a punchier 808 after 8 bars. Additionally, the 808’s pattern shifts, giving the rhythm more variation and maintaining the listener’s interest. With just two distinct chops, one in the verse and one in the opening and hook with greater dynamics and texture, the sample remains fairly constant throughout the song. In terms of layering, the producer adds background leads to the sample that plays lengthy, gliding notes. This gives the rhythm a fuller sound overall and gives him more control over the arrangement.
